I’m excited about my party. I am thrilled that I’ll be surrounded by family and friends.

I thought you might like to have some of the details so you can plan.

Basics

The party is being held on Saturday, August, 27, 2022.

The party will be held at the Angel Springs Event Center in Georgetown. The Center was created by my friend Anthony and his wife Norma (and they’ll be there as my guests 😉 ). I chose this venue because it’s beautiful, has plenty of room, and is relatively close to my home.

The party is adults-only. Not because I don’t love children, because I do. But because I want us all to be able to relax without having to worry about kids.

Timeline

  • The party starts at 5 PM(ish). Feel free to arrive a bit early or a bit late. I’ll be there, regardless.
  • Cocktail/mingle time from 5 PM – 5:30 PM with some entertainment.
  • Dinner will be served at 5:30 PM(ish).
  • Speeches/announcements at any time.
  • During- and post-dinner mingle with some entertainment.
  • Scheduled speeches/announcements** plus any spontaneous stuff until 7:30 PM.
  • Stage magic show featuring Brad Henderson at 7:30 PM.
  • Post-show mingling and departures until around 9 PM.

Expectations

  • If you know me you know that I love giving and receiving presents but don’t expect or require them. Having my family and friends there is what this is about.
  • Attire will be casual (at least for me). Dress however you please.
  • I’m working on setting up a way for each of you to be able to capture images and videos and share them with everyone (and particularly me, of course). There are a few systems that do this. I want to make it as effortless as I possibly can, and I really, really want some visual memories.
  • At least one of the performers will be performing for free (or in exchange for some photography by me) and I’m paying the rest. I’m sure any of them would welcome tips. Only if you feel like it – it’s neither expected nor required.

Entertainment

  • I’m planning on some light background live music from entry through dinner. That might be switched out for specific music for entertainers.
  • Right now I’m planning on a fire dancer/poi* dancer (outdoors/porch and maybe the poi indoors too) during the “cocktail hour”, plus maybe a belly dancer (indoors) during that same time plus during dinner. Because I think those things are cool. 🙂
  • There will be a live stage magic show from 7:30 PM until around 8:30 PM. This – along with the entire party – is my gift to myself. I love magic and Brad is one of the best around.
  • Whether you consider this entertainment or not… if you want to say something to me and/or about me at any time, please feel free to do so. Roasting, toasting, celebrating, whatever – they’re all okay with me.

Lodging and Transportation for Out-of-Towners

  • The Holiday Inn Express and Suites is a 90-second walk from our house and is reasonably priced. Since the venue (Angel Springs Event Center) is only around 15-minutes from here, it’s a decent choice. If you’re coming in from out of town and planning on staying there, let me know. Thus far I only know of two people, which wouldn’t justify negotiating any kind of block rate for rooms.
  • If you’re going to need transportation to and from the venue, please let me know and I’ll see what I can arrange (maybe my children will volunteer, or some of my local friends).
  • If you’re flying in, please share your itinerary with me. Just so I’ll know. I’ll arrange transportation as much as I can, but can’t promise that I can do it for everyone. And you should know that it’s around 35-minutes between the Holiday Inn and the airport.

* A traditional Maori performance art in which one swings in each hand a rope with a ball at the end, usually in specific, complex patterns. Recently the balls might be/incorporate some form of lighting.

** If you would like to be sure that you have time to say something publicly, from the front, with a microphone, please contact our magician/host/coordinator Brad Henderson by email at themindshow@gmail.com or by phone/text message at 512-431-3057. Please be sure to make it clear that you’re talking about Doc List’s birthday party.
